Despite the fact that the wind tunnel business is considered to be very profitable, it typically requires a few millions of up-front investment. The amount varies even within the same wind tunnel class. To open a modern recirculating tunnel project with permanent installations a total investment over $2.8 million (for model R2 by Aerodium) and till $7-10 million dollars (for Traditional models) is required. This is a substantial difference.

Fully self-contained technology for implementation into existing building

Developing this tunnel, our goal was to ensure the best customer experience through design and safety. The 36ft frameless glass flight chamber is raised on a podium giving an unobstructed 360-degree view for the flyers and spectators. There is a completely new waiting chamber, relocating the tunnel operator, so that customers can interact with each other before and after their flight. Dynamic LED lighting enhances the visual experience. With the R2 we introduce a new, patent-pending safety net design, ensuring a safe landing zone even at the edges of the tunnel.

Huge endless works

Project goal.

The goal at this point is to have planned everything so carefully that everything goes off without a hitch. Of course, that rarely happens, as something always goes wrong during a construction project. The middle stage involves working on improvements. Since the early development tasks have been completed, the project risks at this stage are greatly reduced but certainly not eliminated.

Construction process tasks:

Break the ground; Excavation; Foundation; Concrete forms; Pour foundation wall; Concrete slab pour; Gravel; Water barrier; Rigid foam; Rebar (and PEX tubing for radiant floor heating); Pour concrete for slab; Utilities; Sewer, Electrical, Water, Gas. Last but certainly not least, the post-construction stage. Now that all the work on the job site has been completed, the project will soon come to a close.

This model is perfect for integration into shopping malls. It is the very first vertical glass tunnel easily integrated inside a shopping mall (not to be confused with “attached to the building”, which is different). It is individually designed and produced for new mall projects or assembled into already completed buildings. Thanks to this innovative solution, it is possible to turn back time and implement a major object into an available space after the work on a shopping mall project has started and all main building constructions already exist.
